Conakry World Book Capital 2017
Conakry, capital of the Republic of Guinea is a port city opened by a wide cornice on the Atlantic Ocean, which has more than 2 million inhabitants making it one of the most important African cities. Located in West Africa, Guinea is open on the Atlantic Ocean, bordered to the South by Liberia and Sierra Leone, on the North by Senegal and Guinea Bissau, on the East by Mali and Côte d’Ivoire.
The historic center of Conakry is located on the peninsula of Kaloum, Tombo. The city was then largely overwhelmed inland, in the image of geographic and demographic of all great African metropolises growth.
The city flourished as a port of export, especially after the construction of the railway line leading to Kankan, in the centre of the country. It is also the seat of the institutions and the administrative, political, economic and cultural center.
